About AZRFG Posted on February 24th, 2010

The Arizona Rare Fruit Growers is a chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers, and is a non-profit club organized in 1996 by Scottsdale Physician, Dr. Fred Yerger and his daughter, Allison, a landscaper and a student of horticulture at Arizona State University. Doctor Yerger successfully cultivated a wide variety of tropical and subtropical fruit trees for years at his home in Scottsdale. His desire to share the experience and knowledge evolved into the Arizona CRFG Chapter.

The purpose of our organization is to promote the culture and preservation of fruiting plants that most would not associate with Arizona’s arid climate.  Our members are constantly experimenting with methods for adapting these rare fruits to our areas somewhat hostile growing conditions.  Through our website, our meetings, and our semi-annual plant sales, we strive to educate the public on how the novice to the advanced gardner can successfully grow rare fruit in Arizona.
